Rafaela Taylor is a local artist and illustrator who is currently raising her young daughter, writing and illustrating a children’s book and drawing from life as much as she can. She will be showing some of her favourite artworks that she’s made over the last 5 years and hopes it will feel like a treasure trove of lively lines, bold colours and delicious drawings - all in a gorgeous colonies garden! There will be prints from her series of collaged landscapes, figurative oil paintings, her recent more illustrative work, wrapping paper that she designed while living in the north of Sweden and an eclectic array of cards.
Rafaela is currently writing and illustrating a children’s book and being mentored by Morag Hood as part of the Picture Hooks Buddy scheme 2024. She has won various prizes for her work including the Friends of Leith School of Art Painting prize in 2020 and the Picture Hooks ‘kindness’ competition in 2022. Her work has been shown as part of a group exhibition at the V&A Dundee, Edinburgh Storytelling Centre, Edin Court Inverness and The Crannie Community Centre Edinburgh. Rafaela trained as an architect - graduating with a distinction with her MA from Umeå School of Architecture in 2015.
