Maureen Mitchell
Handmade Prints and Watercolour
Maureen trained in art and design at Edinburgh College of Art. Her main subject was Jewellery and Silversmithing. After completing a post-graduate diploma, she set up her own jewellery workshop in Fife. In more recent years, she returned to college to study graphic design which in turn developed an interest in printmaking. After doing some courses at Glasgow Print Studio in collagraph printmaking and etching, she discovered gelatin plate printing which has been a wonderful way to spend the lockdown months. Working from a garden studio, a lot of Maureen’s work involves plants and flowers, many of which have been dried, flattened and then printed using a Gelli plate. This is a lovely method of printing which you can do without a printing press. Each original print is unique and handprinted. Maureen’s work is available to purchase on Etsy.com and Redbubble.com. Now that shops and galleries are open again, she hopes to find some new outlets!
