VENUE 15 - Mud & Marsh Jewellery Design, 30 Lady Menzies Place

Landscape-inspired, Colourful

Ruth Appleby is an artist living in the North East of Edinburgh. She has always found inspiration in wild places, but in 2020 she decided to develop that passion into making jewellery pieces with natural themes such as the ocean, sunsets and mountain scapes. She would describe her style as wearable art that looks like miniature paintings. She uses a range of polymer clay crafting techniques to hand-make each of her items. The majority of her pieces are unique, one-off designs so she tends to sell them in person, some of her favourite pieces are available for purchase on her website.

Ruth also makes semi precious stone jewellery and has recently begun trying out silver clay and silversmithing techniques.

In early 2023 she began to offer regular polymer clay making workshops. She offers beginner day workshops covering a number of basic skills which allow participants to make two individual pieces to take home with them. It's wonderful to see the variety of designs that people come up with!

Her jewellery skills are self-taught but she did fine art A level at school which taught her the principles she uses in her jewellery making to this day.

She exhibits with 3d2d regularly at the West End Fair and other events they run.  She always holds a stall at the monthly Portobello market in Brighton Park and take part in other one-off events throughout the year.
