VENUE 16 - Lauren Emmy Bowman, 25 Regent Place
Painting, Prints, Jewellery, Gifts
Lauren Emmy Bow, a true and undeniable maximalist, creates highly decorative miniature paintings of an often-anthropomorphic persuasion. A story maker exploring elaborate visual narratives and the beauty of refined and ridiculous chaos.
Hyper detailed workmanship including the use of rich ornamentation and the depiction of complex emotion on teeny tiny thumb sized faces are hallmarks of her practice. The mediums used in her paintings work vary from watercolour and gouahce on paper, to enamels and oils on board.
Alongside her primary painting work she is a purveyor of a smorgasbord of joyful things, including painting, print, apparel, jewellery, woodcraft, paint and drawing commissions, textiles, gifts and all the good stuff!
Lauren graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013 and went on to win multiple early career prizes including the Prudential Award for Young Artists at The National Open Art Competition 2014 and the RSA: Landscape and Art in Healthcare Purchase awards at RSA: New Contemporaries 2014. In 2016 her work was shortlisted for the inaugural W.H Smith Painting prize and shown in the accompanying exhibition. Her first solo show ‘Resolutions’ took place at The Scottish Gallery later the same year. She has exhibited internationally, with time spent at a residency in Japan as well as time in India and Nepal particularly influencing her practice. Lauren is highly engaged in social practice and works with adults and children with additional support needs autism and learning disabilities to create fulfilling and inspiring arts, music and drama outcomes in which participants can take a genuine sense of pride and ownership.
