Pen on Paper

I draw with a black pen on white-ish paper for no particular reason other than to escape slightly. Sometimes these drawings are colourised into prints, and sometimes I show them to people.

As a geography lecturer by day, it’s perhaps no surprise that my art tends to focus on buildings and cities, juxtaposed and sometimes shattered by small moments of life that can’t be contained with those walls. Most of the places I draw aren’t real, but you might find them familiar anyway.

If all of that sounds a little bit serious, rest assured that you can probably find a dragon, a koala, some small birds, a giant owl and a flying hedgehog somewhere in amongst these images.

One of my drawings was featured on the front cover of Rent and its Discontents: A Century of Housing Struggles (edited by Neil Gray) which made me smile.

I only exhibit at the Colony of Artists because I live here, and it’s nice to show someone my drawings every now and then. This will be my third year and I’m excited to be back!
