Almaborealis
Kidswear: That Kids Can Make
Almaborealis creates creative and playful learning tools to get kids involved in making clothes. Although our tactile tool kits are intended for kids (4-12 years), grown-ups can have a shot too. Learn the running, whip, back and chain stitch and use these to create your own woolly wearable items. Our JUST PLAY - kits (mini, midi and MEGA sized) are designed to provide an open-ended, child-led experience, offering a platform for exploration and discovery through clothing. Bing Bang Build Your Own Beanie is a guided activity that leads the creative through the steps of making their very own woolly beanie with a pompom, or two! Almaborealis’ designs are inspired by classic toy designers Fredun Shapur and Alma Siedhoff—Buscher and educational theorist of the past and today.
Our products are made in Scotland with elbow powered knitting machines, in our Edinburgh studios using Scottish sourced, 100% woollen yarns, biodegradable by default.
Almaborealis was founded by knitwear designer Maija Nygren, originally from Finland, who grew up surrounded with wool, crochet and knitting as well as resourceful use of materials to keep them going forever. Maija is a passionate craft educator and believes that by making, we learn to understand where things come from, care and repair more.
