Watercolours Featuring Flowers
Gill Smith graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. She then went on to complete a post graduate diploma in Art Therapy.
Gill paints mostly in watercolour with subjects ranging from still life with flowers, animals to landscapes. She is interested in colour, texture and pattern and love the fluidity and transparency of watercolours. The interplay of shapes is the main focus of her work.
1977 – 1981 trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art Dundee. She then, after working as an Occupational Therapy Helper, went onto complete a post graduate diploma in Art Therapy.
1982-1983 trained as an Art Therapist at St Albans School of Art.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s she had work reproduced as greeting cards by various card companies which sold in John Lewis and Liberty’s of London. She also designed cards for the charity Save the Children.
She took part in various group shows including the Leith Gallery and had one man shows in the Peter Potter Gallery in Haddington and one in London. She also showed in the north of Spain in 2011 and 2012. Since 2003 She has exhibited annually at the Pittenweem Arts Festival. She had a painting selected and exhibited at the RSW annual exhibition. She exhibited at the Society of Botanical artists, Mall Galleries, London in 2022 and currently have work on show in One 20 Dundas Street and J Innes in St Andrews.
In 2005 Gill and her partner Bob Giulianotti founded the Colony of Artists group exhibition. She has taken part every year since.
