Alicja Klawinowska’s practice is a direct reflection of her growth as a storyboard artist. She is focused on both people and environment, their relations in the passing, faint, and unique context. Trying to capture “the moment”, the essence of “now” - hence urban sketchbooks. Another important aspect of her work is emotional expression. What hides behind our faces? That’s the core of nonverbal communication - hence portraying. Perception and inspiration is another dimension of her artistic explorations. Extraction of what you see in random shapes and shades is quintessential for her series “Pareidolia”.
Despite being a life-long cinephile who has long-dreamt of a career working within the entertainment industry, she began her academic career studying architecture at the University of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland. Leaving both architecture and her homeland behind me, she leapt into the unknown and moved to Edinburgh, Scotland to pursue a degree in 3D Animation. At Edinburgh College, she was able to hone her fine art skills whilst being trained in the principles of animation, effective storytelling, narrative visualisation, motion design, timing, cinematic theory, and the language of filmmaking. She now freelances for the entertainment industry as a storyboard artist and general art support technician
