VENUE 45 - Emily Gait Illustration, 33 Rossie Place

 Ink & Pen Illustrations

Emily Gait is a self-taught illustrator, and her work is inspired by the wild scenes of Scotland to the bustling streets and historic architecture. She has always sketched for leisure and moving to Edinburgh over 6 years ago inspired and encouraged her to take her sketch book with her more often. She enjoys drawing the sea, landscapes, and historic buildings so you will likely find her at Portobello beach, drawing from a cafe or on top of Arthur’s seat to capture a view of the city.  She finds drawing meditative and is a calming break from her day job working for an environmental charity. She enjoys drawing in situ with ink and then colouring the sketch in when she’s back indoors. She has used her illustrations to create greeting cards, postcards, framed prints, calendars and notebooks. So far her art has been sold in three independent shops in Edinburgh and she has taken part at several weekend markets.

This year she has taken her art further and illustrated her first children’s book and started experimenting with paints so you may spot some new material on her stall in her second year participating at the Colony of Artists Festival. She looks forward to meeting you!
